Conformal transformations and weak field limit of scalar-tensor gravity

The weak field limit of scalar tensor theories of gravity is discussed in view of conformal transformations. Specifically, we consider how physical quantities, like gravitational potentials derived in the Newtonian approximation for the same scalar-tensor theory, behave in the Jordan and in the Einstein frame. The approach allows to discriminate features that are invariant under conformal transformations and gives contributions in the debate of selecting the true physical frame. As a particular example, the case of $f(R)$ gravity is considered.

Narrowing the window of inflationary magnetogenesis

We consider inflationary magnetogenesis where the conformal symmetry is broken by the term $f^2(\phi) F_{\alpha\beta} F^{\alpha\beta}$. We assume that the magnetic field power spectrum today between 0.1 and $10^4$ Mpc is a power law, with upper and lower limits from observation. This fixes $f$ to be close to a power law in conformal time in the window during inflation when the modes observed today are generated. In contrast to previous work, we do not make any assumptions about the form of $f$ outside these scales. Implications of nonplanar dual conformal symmetry

Recently, Bern et al observed that a certain class of next-to-planar Feynman integrals possess a bonus symmetry that is closely related to dual conformal symmetry. It corresponds to a projection of the latter along a certain lightlike direction. Previous studies were performed at the level of the loop integrand, and a Ward identity for the integral was formulated. We investigate the implications of the symmetry at the level of the integrated quantities. In particular, we focus on the phenomenologically important case of five-particle scattering. Electric-magnetic duality and renormalization in curved spacetimes

We point out that the duality symmetry of free electromagnetism does not hold in the quantum theory if an arbitrary classical gravitational background is present. The symmetry breaks in the process of renormalization, as also happens with conformal invariance. We show that a similar duality-anomaly appears for a massless scalar field in $1+1$ dimensions.

Quantum Mechanics from Periodic Dynamics: the bosonic case

Enforcing the periodicity hypothesis of the "old" formulation of Quantum Mechanics we show the possibility for a new scenario where Special Relativity and Quantum Mechanics are unified in a Deterministic Field Theory [arXiv:0903.3680]. A novel interpretation of the AdS/CFT conjecture is discussed.

Conformal Symmetry and Differential Regularization of the Three-Gluon Vertex

The conformal symmetry of the QCD Lagrangian for massless quarks is broken both by renormalization effects and the gauge fixing procedure. Renormalized primitive divergent amplitudes have the property that their form away from the overall coincident point singularity is fully determined by the bare Lagrangian, and scale dependence is restricted to $\delta$-functions at the singularity. If gauge fixing could be ignored, one would expect these amplitudes to be conformal invariant for non-coincident points. Generalized evolutes, vertices and conformal invariants of curves in Rn + 1

Abstract We define the generalized evolute of a curve in ( n + 1)-space and find a duality relation between them. We also prove that the conformal torsion is a function of the speed of the generalized evolute and that the singular points of the generalized evolute (vertices) are conformal invariants.
